Martha Washington knocks out five racing presidents with her purse

Martha Washington attacked Nats racing presidentsMartha Washington made yet another appearance during the Nationals Presidents race on Labor Day, and once again, the beneficiary was husband George.

This time, Martha appeared from the Nationals bullpen and swung her purse at each of George’s opponents as they approached the right field turn.

It was Martha’s fifth appearance this season, and while only some of those appearances have occurred on Mondays, both Teddy Roosevelt and William Howard Taft introduced a hashtag indicating that we should expect more of the first first lady on Mondays yet to come:

I am a huge Washington Nationals fan (and partial season ticket holder) whose son fell in love with the Presidents Race from that first day in July, 2006 when big-headed Teddy first came up short. It's wonderful to think that such a fan-friendly tradition could become established in DC so quickly. Who says DC doesn't have great fans?
