A 2018 season filled with presidential hijinks included races disrupted by double dutch, pet lions, superhero capes, hair styling, “groovy bus” rides, hypnosis, miniature presidents, picnics, selfies, red cards, pet cats, boxer shorts, sword fights, beer interference, garage sales, the YMCA and the electric slide. A record number of rain delays during the summer of 2018 led the racing presidents to hold an umbrella relay.
The confusion mirrored that of the Nats front office, as the Nats first let Teddy win the opening two races of the season, then for 4 months they didn’t (not even for the exhibition All Star game hosted at Nationals Park), then in late August, after the front office publicly gave up on making the playoffs, they unleashed Teddy again.
Finally, to promote healing, the presidents held arms to share a bipartisan victory in the season finale.
