When baseball returned to Washington DC, Major League Baseball established an annual tradition of playing a morning baseball game on Independence Day in the nation’s capital.
For the first several years of the Nationals’ presidents race, it was also an annual tradition for the writer of the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson, to lead the other presidents while carrying an American flag.
But last year, the team handed the honor to George Washington, and once again in 2014, it was George who led the parade.
