Teddy won. So did the Nats. Time to change the blog.

As I head to spring training this week to see our World Series Champion Washington Nationals, it seems like the time is right for me to hang up the pen.

For those who believed that the Nats would never win until Teddy did, the “curse of Teddy Roosevelt” ended in October 2012. For the rest of you who said that the Nats would continue to get bounced from the playoffs because they’d let Teddy win, well… 2019 certainly put that to bed.

It’s been nearly 13 years since I started this site, and over 7 years since Teddy first won. Since then, I’m regularly asked why I still run this site, and the answer is clearly because of the wonderful people I’ve met, and particularly the young Nats fans who continue to discover it anew every season.

So I’m not going away. I’ve given the site a long-overdue facelift. The blog posts will be remain archived here, and I’ll continue to keep up the standings and video links and the facts/history pages. The home page will now be the current standings. I stopped writing about every race a couple of years back, and have instead shared anything relevant on Twitter, where again, I’ve met some amazing Nats fans, and that will continue.

And I’ll continue to keep the team honest (they seem to mess up the standings almost every year), and link to videos of every race.

It’s been a blast. See you at the ball park.

UPDATE: Not long after writing this, COVID changed everything. With no fans OR racing presidents allowed in the ballpark, all of 2020 and much of 2021 were lost. The team tried to keep the racing presidents employed, staging races outside the stadium — with no spectators — oddly to share on the big screen inside the empty stadium. In 2021, some but not all were shared on social media. It was hard to keep up, and that seemed like a signal to stop trying. As it turns out, the championship run of 2019 is the last season full standings were kept.
