There looked to be plenty of reasons to celebrate at Nationals Park today. The clear skies and rare weekday afternoon start drew folks from their offices to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Nats and Astros. It was also T-Shirt Tuesday, and the first 10,000 fans received free t-shirts featuring racing president Teddy Roosevelt wearing a sombrero. Ryan Zimmerman extended his record hitting streak to 23 games, and the hot-hitting Nationals turned 14 hits 8 walks into 10 runs. Unfortunately, the Nats pitching staff gave up the lead three times, and after 11 innings of 10-10 baseball, the rains came and the game was postponed.
The Nationals will have to wait until July 9 to determine the winner of this one, but the 4th-inning presidents race was officially completed with Abe coming from behind to pass Teddy, who appeared to be weighed down by the sombrero on his head.
Next home game is May 15th!
