Since the Washington Nationals racing presidents burst onto the scene 3 years ago, they have been host to a range of mascots from other teams, but the Nationals Park grounds have never been visited by the original racing mascots — Milwaukee’s Racing Sausages.
With the Milwaukee Brewers in town for a weekend series, it appeared that two of the famed racing sausages made an appearance at the beginning of the 4th inning presidents race. #3 Guido (the Italian sausage) and #4 Frankie Furter (the hot dog) appeared out of the gate early and dashed ahead to stake a huge early lead before the racing presidents even entered the field.
Or did they? Turns out the “sausages” were cardboard replicas. Teddy emerged from the centerfield gate and raced ahead to catch the “sausages” from behind. After tackling them to the ground, he recovered to his feet to continue the race. Teddy lost steam in the straightaway, ceding his lead to George, who crossed the finish line then held up a sign reading “Welcome to NatsTown Stephen,” to celebrate the signing of Stephen Strasburg.
