Win a Teddy Roosevelt Bobblehead from Asylum.com

Teddy Roosevelt Bobblehead DollAsylum.com is giving away authentic Teddy Roosevelt Bobblehead dolls to two lucky presidents race fans.

The popular AOL blog site wrote about Teddy’s off season training efforts just before the season started. Today, they announced the giveaway sweepstakes. To enter, simply leave a comment on today’s blog post about Teddy before April 20 at 6 p.m. EST.

Note that this is not the doll sold at the Nationals Park team store. Winners receive the rare original bobblehead doll that was given away for Teddy Roosevelt’s bobblehead night at RFK Stadium on on September 1, 2007.

Speaking of bobblehead dolls, the Nationals’ own bobblehead sweepstakes has ended, but voting remains open to determine whose bobblehead will be given away at the August 28 game at Nationals Park. You can still vote for Teddy here.

Nats let fans vote for bobblehead night. Pudge or Teddy?

The recently-announced Nationals Promotion Schedule features three bobblehead giveaway nights for 2010, including a free Ryan Zimmerman bobblehead in June, a free Nyjer Morgan bobblehead in July, and a “fan’s choice” bobblehead in August.

This week the team opened voting for that “fans choice” game with a Nationals Bobblehead Sweepstakes. Nats fans can place your votes online to create a bobblehead for Pudge Rodriguez, John Lannan, Jim Riggleman, Jesus Flores, or Teddy Roosevelt. A write-in option is available as well. One voter will be selected to win a bobblehead autographed by the winner.

Not that we have a bias or anything, but if Teddy wins, we’ll definitely be having a party at Nationals Park for our favorite racing president on August 28. To vote, just visit the site and check the box next to the photo of Teddy holding up one of our Let Teddy Win campaign signs.

As this is a sweepstakes with a prize, the terms limit entries to one per person/email address/household.

Teddy welcomes Barack Obama to Washington

Barack Obama with racing president Teddy Roosevelt from philliefan99 on flickrIt’s a big day here in Washington as Barack Obama takes the oath of office, and as reported last week, Washington Nationals racing president Teddy Roosevelt will be on hand to help celebrate at some of today’s inaugural festivities.

Intrepid photographer and presidents race fan Phil Yabut captured the moment with his Pentax as his famous Teddy Roosevelt bobblehead doll met up with its Barack Obama bobblehead counterpart to commemorate the moment.

Phil’s photoset of Teddy’s continued adventures, titled Teddy’s Travels and Travails, is up to 79 photos and can be found on Flickr.

Happy Birthday Teddy!

It's Teddy Roosevelt's birthday! Teddy Roosevelt turns 150 today, and while presidents race fans here in DC are busy celebrating with big-headed Teddy at Hudson restaurant, Teddy’s namesake bobblehead doll has been on the road again, taking in the World Series.

That’s right. Regular readers know I’m a fan of Phil Yabut‘s flickr photoset — Teddy Roosevelt's bobblehead doll at the World Series in Philadelphia's Citizen's Bank ParkTeddy’s Travels and Travails“, in which Phil has documented the travels of his Washington Nationals Teddy Roosevelt bobblehead doll from the 2007 season. This past weekend, bobblehead Teddy became the first member of the Nationals to make it to the World Series, taking in the late night Game 3 thriller at Citizen’s Bank Park, and waking up this morning to a birthday cake which is quite a bit larger than his head. Thanks Phil. And enjoy the Series while it lasts. The Nats’ time will be coming soon.

Keeping busy in the off-season

Another baseball post-season began today without the participation of the Washington Nationals, but racing president Teddy Roosevelt appears to be keeping himself busy throughout he election season.

I wrote in August about Phil Yabut’s Teddy Roosevelt bobblehead doll, whose travels and travails are being documented in a Flickr photoset. Since then, Teddy has continued to take in more sites, and was spotted most recently assessing presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama during the presidential debate.

Despite Phil’s allegiance to the Phillies, the set is inspired and worth checking out. The Nationals had no chance of seeing the playoffs in 2008, but perhaps Teddy’s bobblehead doll will.

A Well-Traveled Teddy Roosevelt Bobblehead Doll

Phil's photoset on flickrOne of the regular contributors to the Nationals Presidents Race group on photo sharing site Flickr is Arlington native Phil Yabut, a frequent visitor to Nationals Park who goes by the name philliefan99.

I recently met Phil on Teddy’s T-Shirt Tuesday at Nationals Park, and despite his unfortunate handle, this Arlington resident is obviously fond of the Washington Nationals and our favorite 4th-inning distraction. In fact, a trip through Phil’s photostream might even lead the most die-hard of Nationals presidents race fans to forgive his Phillie-fan origins.

Phil's photoset on flickrRecently, Phil has begun taking his Teddy Roosevelt Bobblehead doll from last season at RFK Stadium and photographing it wherever he goes. Teddy’s adventures are being chronicled in a photoset called Teddy’s Travels and Travails.

Check it out. Among other things, you’ll find bobblehead Teddy dining out, riding the Metro, visiting Independence Hall, catching some sun at the beach, and of course attending a Nats game, all captured with Phil’s Pentax camera in some very humorous compositions. It’s highly entertaining and creative, and well, frankly I wish I’d thought of it myself!
