Teddy welcomes winning team to town with surprise visits & half-price coupon code

DC Metro commuters got a surprise welcome as Teddy Roosevelt and his racing president cohorts greeted passengers with Nationals ticket coupons at the Metro Center exits Monday.

The racing presidents were promoting the homestand that starts with a Free T-Shirt Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves at Nationals Park and continues with a Mothers Day weekend series against the Florida Marlins. You couldn’t ask for a better weather forecast, and despite losses Saturday and Sunday, the team arrives in town with a winning record and just 1.5 games out of first place in the NL East.

For the upcoming series, the Nationals have again released a half-price coupon code “for Teddy’s friends”: Order at Nationals.com using Coupon Code “TEDDY” (all caps) and get half-price tickets in select seating sections for the 3-game series vs. the Braves starting tonight at Nationals Park. The coupon is valid for online orders only, and gets you half price in the outfield corners ($18), the outfield mezzanine ($15), or the upper infield gallery ($9).

Teddy Roosevelt scratched, misses presidents race with pulled hamstring

For the second time this month, Teddy Roosevelt was scratched from the Washington Nationals presidents race due to a mysterious pre-game injury.

After watching their team give up seven runs to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the top of the 4th inning, fans at Nationals Park were looking for something positive from the mid-inning presidents race.

Teddy Roosevelt was scratched from the Washington Nationals presidents race with a pulled hamstring.Sadly, Teddy fans learned they had nothing to cheer for when it was announced that he would not be racing because he was “still nursing a hamstring injury.” The news was a surprise, given that the presidents had not raced since the Nats’ last home game on September 10.

With only three presidents racing, George Washington came from behind to claim victory.

Teddy was also scratched mysteriously on September 5, but returned the next night. Let’s hope his return is just as speedy this time.

Nationals offer half-price coupon code to Teddy fans to kick off “Screech Week”

The Washington Nationals have once again released a coupon code “for Teddy’s friends”: Order online at Nationals.com using Coupon Code “TEDDY” and get half-price tickets in select seating sections for the series starting Tuesday night vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Washington Nationals T-Shirt TuesdayThe coupon code is valid only for online orders and may be used to get outfield box seats, outfield corner, or mezzanine seats for $15.00 to $18.00 each.

This homestand is your last chance to cheer on the Nationals — and Teddy — in 2009, while getting a glimpse of young September call-ups including hot infielder Ian Desmond.

Tuesday night kicks off “Screech Week” with T-Shirt Tuesday, and a free Screech t-shirt for the first 10,000 fans.

The Screech theme continues with a new promotion on Sunday, September 27. The first 5,000 kids age 12 and under entering Nationals Park will receive a Build-a-Bear Workshop Screech doll — possibly the highest-value promotional item we’ve seen given away at the ball park.

Note also that $5.00 walk-up grandstand tickets have been readily available before the game for the recent series’ vs. the Marlins and Phillies. Grandstand tickets are available before the game at the Nationals ticket windows outside the Center Field Gate.

Sombrero weighs down Teddy on T-Shirt Tuesday

Washington Nationals T-Shirt Tuesday features Teddy Roosevelt on Cinco de MayoThere looked to be plenty of reasons to celebrate at Nationals Park today. The clear skies and rare weekday afternoon start drew folks from their offices to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Nats and Astros. It was also T-Shirt Tuesday, and the first 10,000 fans received free t-shirts featuring racing president Teddy Roosevelt wearing a sombrero. Ryan Zimmerman extended his record hitting streak to 23 games, and the hot-hitting Nationals turned 14 hits 8 walks into 10 runs. Unfortunately, the Nats pitching staff gave up the lead three times, and after 11 innings of 10-10 baseball, the rains came and the game was postponed.

The Nationals will have to wait until July 9 to determine the winner of this one, but the 4th-inning presidents race was officially completed with Abe coming from behind to pass Teddy, who appeared to be weighed down by the sombrero on his head.

Next home game is May 15th!

Teddy Gives Up Lead, Turns to Chase Panther

Teddy Roosevelt, Washington Nationals Presidents RaceThe air was thick with anticipation last night at Nationals Park as over 32,000 filled the stands for Teddy’s T-Shirt Tuesday. As Teddy Roosevelt’s faithful poured into the stadium, many were disappointed to find that the team had given out all 10,000 free “Run Teddy Run” t-shirts nearly an hour before game time.

The skies were clear, the weather was warm, and the always popular New York Mets were in town to kick off a six game homestand; but make no mistake about it. The attraction drawing so many fans on this Tuesday night was the Bull Moose, who was looking to continue the racing presidents’ unbeaten streak on their T-shirt Tuesdays.

Washington Nationals Racing President Teddy Roosevelt Gives Up Lead to Chase PantherWhen the fourth inning presidents race began, Teddy’s fans were rewarded as he jumped out to a huge lead and maintained it throughout the race.

As Teddy neared the finish line, it appeared that he might actually pull this one out, but he suddenly stopped short and turned around. His frequent nemesis, a panther wearing a “That Cat” t-shirt, appeared near the right field corner. Teddy turned, apparently conflicted between chasing the panther and chasing the finish line. He chose the panther, and Abe raced by him to steal yet another victory from our beloved #26.

The panther is becoming a frequent visitor to Nationals Park. After first attacking Teddy in April, it returned in June wearing the t-shirt and chased Teddy down from behind. Then, just 2 weeks ago, it returned to chase Screech into a collision with Teddy.

Teddy Roosevelt Fans at Nationals ParkThat Cat is quickly becoming Teddy’s Moby Dick.

We spotted some Let Teddy Win t-shirts as soon as we walked by the ticket booth and met many more of the blog readers at the pre-game rally and again after the presidents race down by the first base line.

It was great to meet all of you, despite sharing Teddy’s 173rd consecutive loss.

Teddy Nearly Steals T-Shirt Tuesday Victory from Abe

It was free T-Shirt Tuesday tonight at Nationals Park, and the stands were filled with 10,000 Nationals fans wearing free Abe Lincoln t-shirts.

Based on the results from the previous T-Shirt Tuesdays, Abe had to be the prohibitive favorite to run away with tonight’s presidents race, but when the middle of the 4th inning arrived, it was #26 Teddy Roosevelt who jumped out to the big lead, which he extended as he rounded the warning track into the home stretch along the first base line.

But as Teddy approached the finish line, he lost his shoe, tripped and fell. Abe came charging from behind and hurdled over Teddy to claim his 24th presidents race victory this season.

George, Tom, and Abe have now all held serve on their free T-Shirt Tuesdays at Nationals Park. Unfortunately we have to wait another month for Teddy’s big night. Let’s hope his shoes are tied tight on August 12.
