Racing presidents invade Canada, visit Buffalo tonight

This week, the Rushmores decided to use the team’s current road trip as an excuse to hit the road themselves.

No, they didn’t follow the team south to Atlanta. They went in the opposite direction, touring Canada and upstate New York on their way to Buffalo.

Their destination? Buffalo’s Coca-Cola Field, where the Mets Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons (Bison? Bisons?) will close out their home season tonight by hosting the Nationals’ Triple-A affiliate Syracuse Chiefs.

The presidents will greet fans, run an exhibition race, and presumably pay a visit to familiar faces on the Syracuse Roster such as Roger Bernadina, Craig Stammen, and J.D. Martin.

In the meantime, Teddy Roosevelt has been tweeting photos as the presidents have taken the scenic route through Toronto, Niagra Falls, and the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site in Buffalo, where Roosevelt took the oath of office in 1901.

With the team returning to Nationals Park Friday night to begin a 10-game homestand, here’s hoping Teddy doesn’t overexert himself on the trip.

Racing presidents return from Syracuse

The Washington Nationals return from a 10-day road trip tonight to kick off a five game homestand at Nationals Park vs. the Mets and Orioles.

The racing presidents usually get a break while the Nats are on the road, but last week they took to Syracuse, where they held a presidents race during the 5th inning of Stephen Strasburg’s first start for the Syracuse Chiefs. It looked for a time as if Teddy would take the exhibition, but Thomas Jefferson passed him as they raced along the 3rd baseline at Alliance Bank Stadium.

For the two games starting tonight vs. the Mets, the Nationals have released a coupon code for Teddy’s friends: Order at Nationals.com using Coupon Code “TEDDY” (all caps) and get up to 35% off tickets in select seating sections. The coupon is valid for online orders only.

Presidents to race during Stephen Strasburg’s start in Syracuse Wednesday night

The Washington Nationals’ racing presidents will take their show on the road Wednesday for Stephen Strasburg’s second start with the AAA Syracuse Chiefs.

George, Tom, Abe, and Teddy will greet fans at the main gates of Alliance Bank Stadium, then run a presidents race following the 5th inning of the game vs. Norfolk. Nationals Mascot and race judge Screech will also make the trip.

Nats Entertainment Coordinator Tom Davis noted that “sending the Racing Presidents up to Syracuse for a night is another way to let Chiefs fans experience Nationals baseball.”

The game will be carried locally in DC on tape delay by MASN at approximately 10:30pm.

Teddy Heads to Syracuse for Friday’s Hot Stove Dinner

syracuse-chiefs-logoTeddy Roosevelt is kicking off the new year with a trip to Syracuse, New York, to help welcome the Washington Nationals’ new AAA affiliate Syracuse Chiefs to the Nationals family.

This Friday, January 16, marks the Chiefs’ 48th annual “Hot Stove Dinner” — a $50-a-plate event in which fans shmooz with team brass and get a preview of the upcoming season. Washington Nationals president Stan Kasten and manager Manny Acta will be in attendance Friday night, along with Chiefs manager Tim Foli, but I’m betting the line will be longest for photos with our favorite racing president, #26 himself.

The forecast calls for snow showers and a high temperature of 12 degrees, so Teddy had better bundle up. If you’re heading to Syracuse, tickets are available at the Chiefs’ ticket office or by calling 315-474-7833.
