Thomas Jefferson pulls up at the finish, allowing Abe Lincoln to pass by for the victory.
Abraham Lincoln wore a Tutu during Tuesday night’s presidents race at Nationals Park, and with a little help, the Illinois Rail Splitter opened the final homestand of the season by stealing his fourth straight victory.
Lincoln wore the tutu along with a paint-stained t-shirt to promote the upcoming Color Run this weekend at Nationals Park. Thomas Jefferson had Lincoln beaten, but pulled up at the finish to allow Abe to stay within two wins of Teddy Roosevelt with six games remaining.

Time is not on Abraham Lincoln’s side.
The Great Emancipator kicked off the current homestand Friday night with a presidents race victory to move within 6 games of Teddy Roosevelt in the hunt for the season title, but his failure to win on Saturday or Sunday made the task more unlikely.
Teddy Roosevelt lost each of those races at the wire, first to Thomas Jefferson and then to William Howard Taft, but with only 9 races remaining in the season, Teddy’s “magic number” still shrank to 2.

With a month of baseball to go, it may be too early to start talking about a magic number for the Washington Nationals to clinch the 2014 division championship.
Teddy Roosevelt shows off the Presidents Race Championship Belt. The Rough Rider is exploring uncharted territory in 2014
But the presidents race season may be another matter.
The first half of the Nats’ home season marked uncharted territory for perennial loser Teddy Roosevelt, who won enough races to jockey back and forth for first place with all-time presidents race victory leader Abraham Lincoln.
But since the All Star break, it’s been all Teddy. The Rough Rider has won ten times to Lincoln’s two. In fact, Wednesday’s win was the Great Emancipator’s sole victory in the month of August.
When the team returns Friday to Nationals Park, Teddy will have a seven game lead with just a dozen home games to go, for a magic number of 3.
There are many who still say the Nationals should never have let Teddy win, but those people should take note: The Nationals are 16-8 when Teddy wins this season.
