Following Saturday’s racing president auditions, the Washington Nationals took to the road to bring the presidents to New York for their annual appearance at a New York Islanders Presidents Day hockey game at Nassau Coliseum.
Donning ice skates, the four presidents raced around the ice until George slammed Teddy into the visitor’s bench. Teddy retaliated by jumping from the bench into the other three presidents, knocking the entire field to the ice.
Washington was declared the winner. Full video:

The Washington Nationals racing presidents continued a Presidents Day holiday tradition on Monday by appearing for the third consecutive year at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum and conducting a race on ice skates between periods at a New York Islanders hockey game.
With the Florida Panthers in town, Fox Sports Florida captured the following video highlights in which Teddy
Roosevelt jumped from the stands onto the ice to take out George Washington between the first and second periods.
The Nationals mascot team used the occasion for George Washington and Thomas Jefferson to debut the presidents’ new 2011 road gray and alternate blue uniforms.

“You are about to witness history in the making,” intoned the Nassau Coliseum announcer as the Washington Nationals racing presidents made their second annual Presidents Day weekend appearance at a New York Islanders home game.
YouTube member Dcfd3694 caught this terrific video of the presidents racing on ice skates between periods of Sunday’s game. Highlights include this take down of Abe by Thomas Jefferson, and a vicious body slam by Teddy Roosevelt that sent George Washington into the boards. Teddy unfortunately slipped later, allowing George to pass him for the victory.
We’d been promised by the Nats that Teddy was practicing his pirhouettes and quadruple jumps last weekend, but apparently it all fell apart under the pressure of the moment.

The Washington Nationals racing presidents were spotted today at the Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Ballston, waiting for the Capitals to finish so they could do a little presidential ice skating themselves.
The presidents were rehearsing for Sunday’s presidents race on ice during a hockey game between the New York Islanders and the Ottawa Senators at New York’s Nassau Coliseum.
The Nationals have been hush-hush about the presidents practice schedule, but the Washington Post’s Mark Giannotto was at Kettler and captured the moment on his cell phone.

The Washington Nationals racing presidents are headed back to the ice to reprise last year’s Presidents Day race at Nassau Coliseum.
Our favorite oversized presidents made the journey to New York last year to hold the first-ever presidents race on ice skates between periods of a New York Islanders hockey game. After posing for photos with fans before the game, they slipped and slided (and scuffled) across the ice, with predictable results.
A video of that race can be found in our Presidents Race Videos collection.
The Islanders have invited the presidents back this year. With no game scheduled for Presidents Day, look for George, Tom, Abe, and Teddy to make their appearance the night before, at the scheduled 5:00pm game on Sunday, February 14, between the host New York Islanders and the Ottawa Senators.
Last year, the Post’s Dan Steinberg got a tip that the presidents had been spotted training at Ballston’s Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Stay tuned for more on any planned public workouts.

From YouTube member dcfd3694 comes this terrific video of the Presidents Day presidents race on ice skates at Nassau Coliseum.
The chaotic two-lap race featured two knock-downs of Teddy, who scuffled not only with Abe Lincoln but with Thomas Jefferson as well, before cheating and cutting across the ice. You have to give credit to Teddy. Despite falling and fighting, he gave it his all and almost caught George Washington at the finish line.
A great addition to the presidents race videos page to kick off 2009.
