The Washington Nationals racing presidents continued a Presidents Day holiday tradition on Monday by appearing for the third consecutive year at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum and conducting a race on ice skates between periods at a New York Islanders hockey game.
With the Florida Panthers in town, Fox Sports Florida captured the following video highlights in which Teddy
Roosevelt jumped from the stands onto the ice to take out George Washington between the first and second periods.
The Nationals mascot team used the occasion for George Washington and Thomas Jefferson to debut the presidents’ new 2011 road gray and alternate blue uniforms.

Let Teddy Win T-Shirts

Our favorite oversized presidents made the journey to New York last year to hold the first-ever presidents race on ice skates between periods of a New York Islanders hockey game. After posing for photos with fans before the game, they slipped and slided (and scuffled) across the ice, with predictable results.
The Islanders have invited the presidents back this year. With no game scheduled for Presidents Day, look for George, Tom, Abe, and Teddy to make their appearance the night before, at the scheduled 5:00pm game on Sunday, February 14, between the host New York Islanders and the Ottawa Senators.
With the Washington Capitals on the road for their playoff series against the New York Rangers, their mascot Slapshot made a guest appearance at Nationals Park tonight, filling in for the Nationals’ own eagle mascot Screech as referee for the 4th-inning presidents race.
