Nationals announce Teddy giveaways for final homestand

With the Let Teddy Win movement becoming national news, the Nationals are ironically trying to jump on the bandwagon.

Washington Nationals Teddy RooseveltThe Nationals social media team introduced the #Teddyin2012 hashtag, implying that they somehow want to see Teddy win, along with a new Teddy-focused page on Nationals.com.

The page prominently features the quote from Teddy’s “Man in the Arena” speech that has been featured on Let Teddy Win t-shirts and was quoted by Arizona Senator John McCain in the recent Ken Burns video that has been running on various ESPN shows this week.

The team also announced that fans attending next week’s final homestand of the season October 1-3 will receive a Teddy-themed giveaway.

The first 20,000 fans On Monday October 1st will receive Eye Black Strips (“Teddy” for one eye and “26” for the other). On Tuesday the 2nd, it’s Teddy bumper stickers for the first 20,000 fans, and on fan appreciation day Wednesday the 3rd, it’s Teddy pins for the first 20,000 fans.

I think I need at least 40 sets of those eye black strips.

Canine Teddy fan wins Fan of the Game at Pups in the Park

If the 2012 elections were held today, Teddy Roosevelt has an early “leg up” on the canine vote.

Cachucha took the pre-game parade seriously, sporting an elaborate “float” that included a Teddy Roosevelt bobblehead doll mounted on her back.

“She was really hoping her float would give him an edge for a win,” said Diaz.
Let Teddy Win Dog T-Shirt“She was soaking in the glory of being on the field, and sending some good vibes for Teddy.”

Sadly, the pups simply proved to be a distraction for Roosevelt, but Cachucha got a consolation prize: She was featured on the HD scoreboard and voted fan of the game by the Nationals Park crowd.

“Teddy has always been her favorite,” added Diaz. “If she could wear a monocle, she would.”

With three more Pups in the Park promotions scheduled for this summer, perhaps Cachucha can start a whole canine cheering section for our favorite president.

…and if a float isn’t your dog’s thing, there’s always the Let Teddy Win T-Shirt for dogs (above).

Just in time for Valentine’s Day

Let Teddy Win Womens Boy Briefs for Valentines DayAs the baseball season nears, I’ve been checking out the new items over at Cafepress to add to the Let Teddy Win collection. There are new mugs, mousepads, and the like, but I had to laugh when I saw these new women’s boy briefs. Seemed like the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for those Nats fans with more than a little fondness for the original Rough Rider…

Honk if you love Teddy Roosevelt

I hope you enjoyed Teddy Roosevelt’s birthday as much as I did. Unlike last year’s big 150th birthday bash, this year was a little quieter for our favorite #26.

However, the family did give me a surprise birthday present this week in the form of new vanity plates.

So remember if you see me driving around the DC area: Honk if you love Teddy!

Roosevelt #26 T-Shirts Are Here

Roosevelt #26 T-Shirts have arrived at letteddywin.com, and I’m bummed I’m not going to have mine in time for the Nationals-Marlins series this weekend.

Available styles include jerseys, adult t-shirts, women’s t-shirts, and t-shirts in kids and infant/toddler sizes. There’s even a baby bib for the littlest Ben’s Chili Bowl fans to bring to Nationals Park.

All say “Washington” on the front and “Roosevelt” on the back. Like all Let Teddy Win t-shirts, these are printed to order by CafePress and come with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Visions of Victory for Teddy

Presidents Race on Brian Mosley's Lawn

Flickr user Brian Mosley has set up a little inspirational image for our beloved 26th president as he prepares for the 2008 presidents race campaign.

Brian, a self-proclaimed “overnight fan” of Teddy Roosevelt and the presidents race, read about the Let Teddy Win! campaign on DCist, picked himself up a presidents race rally sign, and then got out his camera.

Brian’s housemate has a collection of racing president bobblehead dolls from the 2007 season. As you can see by the photo, Brian set up an inspirational presidents race display in his yard under the rally sign, with Teddy leaving Tom, George, and Abe in the dust as he crosses the finish line. The photo appeared on flickr yesterday.

Teddy, are you paying attention? Visualize success!

Presidents Race rally signs are here.

Presidents Race sign at Nationals Park. The presidents race rally signs have arrived and they look great!

I promised a photo as soon as the finished product arrived, and here it is. This is not cheap cardboard sign. It’s made of flexible weatherproof vinyl, is printed on both sides, and will easily last through the entire presidents race season. In fact, when you bring it home you can post it in your yard with the enclosed posts.

If you’re wondering how I got this photo, I just had to envision how it will look at Nationals Park, so I took a photo holding up the sign and combined it with this crowd shot from a 2007 Nationals game. Imagine an army of fans holding these up during the presidents race!

Let Teddy Win kids long sleeve jersey

presidents race Let Teddy Win kids long sleeve jerseyHere’s a photo of the new Let Teddy Win jersey that just arrived. My son wore it to school this week and to a fall festival today. He got tons of “great shirt” comments!

This is the one that has the Teddy Roosevelt quote on the back:

Teddy Roosevelt Quote T-Shirt

The quote reads:

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, then to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.

How perfect is that?

The jersey is available in sizes for adults or kids.

New Item: Let Teddy Win Signs

Presidents Race Rally Sign

I have to say I’m very excited about this new product. Today is the first day it could be ordered and I’ve put it up on letteddywin.com immediately because I know it’s going to be a big hit at Washington Nationals games.  Just imagine waving these during the presidents race!

The sign is 22 inches wide. It is printed on 2 sides and made of flexible weather-resistant vinyl. It includes a metal frame so that you can bring it home from the game and post it in your yard.

I hope you like the design. Of course I ordered the first one myself immediately and will post more photos when it arrives.

New Let Teddy Win Hoodie for Kids

Presidents Race Let Teddy Win Kids Hoodie

Let Teddy Win Kids Hoodie

I just added this new product last week and ordered one immediately for my daughter. I must say it looks great, and she absolutely does not want to take it off. She wore it to bed, and took it to school the next day (even though it was 90 degrees in DC)! I will have to take a photo of her in it for letteddywin.com.

The Let Teddy Win kids hoodie is made of soft, 100% cotton fleece and will be perfect for night games at Nationals Park — especially early in the season.

The Let Teddy Win presidents race store is still a work in progress, but boy am I glad I decided to use cafepress. They are really easy to work with and the merchandise is really of high quality. The direct printing looks good and appears to me as if it will last forever. If I were looking to build a money-making business I might not use them, because they take most of the $$, but I’m just looking to cover my costs and have fun here and promote Teddy to win the presidents race without investing too much money.

Introducing the Official Let Teddy Win TM T-Shirt

Let Teddy Win T-Shirt with Quote (front).

Announcing the first official Let Teddy Win t-shirt, for cheering on Teddy to win the presidents race in the upcoming 2008 season. This and other designs are available at the Let Teddy Win Store.

The quote on the back is by Teddy Roosevelt himself:

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, then to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.

More about me: This is of course the first of many posts to come, so I’ll be brief. The I am a huge Washington Nationals fan (and partial season ticket holder) whose son fell in love with the Presidents Race from that day in July, 2006 when big-headed Teddy first came up short. I selected CafePress to create the store because the products are of very high quality (I ordered them myself before putting them up for sale). More info about me and the store are at the
Let Teddy Win About Me page.

Welcome to Presidents Race: Let Teddy Win!

Welcome to Presidents Race: Let Teddy Win! What is this site all about?

Presidents Race

The presidents race is a fixture at home games for the Washington Nationals baseball team. In the middle of the fourth inning, a race is conducted between the four presidents featured on Mount Rushmore — George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt.

During the Nationals first season in Washington, the presidents race was little more than a cute bit of mid-inning entertainment conducted on the RFK Stadium electronic scoreboard. When the Lerner family purchased the Nationals in July of 2006, they introduced live, costumed racing presidents with oversized heads who entered the stadium from the right field corner and ran along the field towards a finish line near home plate. The new, big-headed presidents were an immediate hit.

Let Teddy Win!

It wasn’t apparent to most fans at first, but astute observers of the presidents race began to realize that something unusual was at foot. Day in and day out, the presidents race would be entertaining and occassionally competitive, but no matter how good a start he got, Teddy would somehow always falter before he reached the finish line. That first season finished with Teddy as the only winless racing president.

The streak continued in 2007. The Washington Nationals improved to a fourth place finish as their long rebuilding process continued, and Teddy’s relentless pursuit of his first victory in the Presidents Race became a rallying cry for fans.

2008 looks to be a huge year for Teddy Roosevelt and the Washington Nationals. As the team moves into its new ball park, the big question on the minds of many fans will be whether the team will finally let Teddy win.

Calling all Teddy fans
