Teddy honors Space Shuttle astronauts

Teddy as Astronaut, By Cheryl Nichols, Nats News NetworkWhat do you do after a spectacular 14-day, 5.7 million-mile journey to the International Space Station as pilot of the the Space Shuttle Endeavor? Head to Nationals Park, of course.

Space Shuttle Commander George Zamka, Pilot Terry Virts and Mission Specialists Kathryn Hire, Stephen Robinson, Nicholas Patrick and Robert Behnken were on hand Tuesday night as Virts threw out the first pitch at the Nationals/Rockies game.

Teddy took the lead in tonight’s presidents race carrying a “Curly W” flag and wearing a makeshift astronaut helmet to honor the evening’s special guests. The helmet, unfortunately, may have obscured Teddy’s view of the finish line, as he faltered rounding the outfield corner, before planting the flag in foul territory.

In a race for the tape, Tom edged Abe to steal the season lead, dropping Abe from first place for the first time since May, 2009.
